Global Peace Exchange Partnership with Clinic Nepal in 2014
The success of our previous year sets the framework for our project in 2014. Check back for more updates on this year's project!
The over-reaching theme of the project includes empowering individuals through maintaining good health, access to education, and cleanly environments. Due to the success of the project in 2013, we have been asked by Clinic Nepal to continue our existing projects as our primary objective. Meanwhile, we are still looking to assess needs within the kindergarten, children’s hostel, clinic, scout troop, and the community at large.
This year, with the help of donors, we would like to begin a Kindle library to provide a sustainable source for adults to practice their English in GPE's absence. Additionally, we will employ a local CPR instructor to help decease moralities that result from drowning. A musical mentorship is also a part of the project we will be initiating.

Global Peace Exchange Partnership with Clinic Nepal in 2013
GPE sent six volunteers to continue its work for a second year to partner with Clinic Nepal to assist in the expansion and sustainability of the Wolfgang Linke Kindergarten and Friendship Scout Troop in Meghauli and the Asha Kokiran Kindergarten and Children's Hostel in Daldale, Chitwan.
We implemented a summer school with weekly topics on leadership and respect, health and hygiene, environment and sustainability, and art and music. We combined lessons with team-building activities and games inspired by challenge course material to create a well-rounded experience. We also invited volunteer doctors from the Friendship Clinic to teach lessons on water-borne diseases, dental care, and the importance of hand-washing. In an effort to reduce waste around Meghauli, GPE donated 1,500 reusable cloth bags that will went hand-in-hand with lessons on sustainability and the existing monthly scout trash clean-up project. Finally, the scouts in Meghauli stressed their desire in 2012 for the future exchange of music and dance as they shared their favorite songs and dances with us and wanted to learn more of ours. In 2013, we were very excited to incorporate music into several lessons along with donating simple Nepali instruments to the Friendship Scout Troop to continue to use during their events throughout the year. Most importantly, the summer school was open to all young people in Meghauli, and is not limited to sponsored, government or private students.
GPE volunteers also assised in the instruction and improvement of the Wolfgang Linke Kindergarten through providing innovative teaching material and training. GPE provided minor additions to facilities (including a patient monitor machine donated by Michael Douglas), toiletries and medicine, children's books for a community library (donated by David and Debra Douglas and Hannah Douglas), and more as we continue to conduct research and understand the needs of the community. We are donating children's clothes collected by David and Debra Douglas to certain children in Meghauli and the rest to the Asha Kokiran Children's Hostel where it is needed.
Last, GPE implemented an intensive English workshop for older members of the community, including teachers, business owners, artists, and more, with lessons specific to the needs of their trade. Kudos to Yvonne Milejczak for providing a very generous donation of English Language Learning materials from Pine Ridge Elementary School in Clermont, FL.
All of our efforts are made possible through the support of Florida State University, various grants including the True Seminole grant, and support from our local community of students, families, businesses, and friends.
Please check back to stay up-to-date concerning GPE events and fundraisers that will support our project.
