Although the spring semester has ended and the GPE Nepal members are home with their
families, the work has not come to a halt. With the flight to Kathmandu three weeks away, preparations
are now in full throttle. The team’s gathering personal supplies and putting the last minute touches on
their lesson plans which focus on concepts such as leadership, environment, teamwork, health, and
compassion. These lessons are jam packed with activities to get the children excited, active, and
involved as part of the Be Happy, Be Healthy summer camps in both Daldale and Meghauli. In addition,
the senior volunteers in GPE have been meeting with this year’s team to talk about important issues,
such as the best ways to go about handling the budget and teaching English to the community in
Meghauli.
The team has also sent out the last of their letters to friends and family encouraging them to
donate to the causes of empowerment, health, environment, and education in Nepal. All in all, It’s easy
to say that the excitement has set in for this group of six volunteers, and that this will be a productive
summer that will not easily be forgotten!
