Namaste,
Meghauli has nestled its way into the hearts of all the volunteers this year. While it was over one hundred degrees Fahrenheit almost everyday these past two weeks, the five team members in Meghauli have been working everyday to complete the objectives of the Nepal project. One reason is that they have grown to love Nepal: its people, food, and all its culture and natural beauty this sliver of a country between India and China contains. The three delicious meals a day our host mother, Sabitri, cooks transform into our much needed fuel for the day and these meals are events we look forward to every time we sit down until we can say, “Ookus mookus,” or “I am about to explode” in Nepali. No need for alarm: that is a high compliment in this hospitable culture.
Clinic Nepal has been so helpful in all our endeavors, not the least of which was settling into the Meghauli lifestyle and beginning our various portions of the GPE project. In Meghauli, we have successfully began our adult English classes, kindergarten teacher English classes, and summer school. In the existing institutions, such as the clinic and kindergarten, we have had opportunities to help with both everyday logistical and overall structural improvements. In all areas of the project, we are receiving so much gratitude for the work we have been planning for the last six months, some of us planning for almost a year in advance. It is exhilarating to see our goals come to fruition.
For more project updates, look out for our next post concerning our progress report. It is coming soon!
